A sample log is easiest to interpret when each entry identifies one deliberate change. Record the material label, the artwork version, and the observation you want to review; do not convert a first observation into a material guarantee.
Keep the comparison honest
Place a reference sample next to the new sample under the same viewing conditions. Note what changed and what remains uncertain, then decide whether another controlled sample would answer the next question. This creates a usable record without overstating early evidence.
